How We Rated

Just a glimpse into the mindset of our professionals and creatives who helped us pick the best monitors

General

The components we reviewed for general purpose professional use were price, size, resolution, color accuracy/range, and brightness. As a professional or creative, you want a crisp display so resolutions of 4k and higher monitors shined with a 27 to 32inches in size. All our monitors offer a strong color accuracy and are bright enough to use the brightest of days.

Connectivity

Too many wires and clutter can ruin your flow of work and also hinder efficient use of your workspace. This is why we looked for monitors that offer power delivery and display all within a single connection. USB-C was also important to ensure power to charge your other devices like webcams and phones.

Contrast

Deep blacks and uniform displays are what we need for long viewing times and accurate contrast perception. Different panels and backlights offer different contrast levels, where OLED is the highest and IPS single LED is the lowest. VA panels offer higher constrast than IPS panels but have a lower viewing angle. Mini LED backlit displays with 500 or more dimming zones offer amazing contrast and higher brightness levels, but OLED reins supreme where each indiviual pixel is lit on its own.

Other Features

Modern monitors tend to have other features to differentiate them, but these were considered nice-to-haves such as speakers, RGB lighting, and Keyboard/Video/Mouse switching (KVM).

#1
Dell
UltraSharp U2723QE
UltraSharp U3223QE

What you need to know

This monitor has the balance of everything a creative or professional needs and for a great price. The 4k high resolution provides a sharp picture for both the 27 inch and 32 inch sizes that are provided. As one of the first IPS Black panels on the market, you can definitely notice the higher contrast ratio and the deeper blacks compared to your average IPS monitors.

But what makes this our #1 choice? It's the combination of the new panel technology, a great color accuracy, connectivity that simplifies your workspace and charges your devices, and sleek design. That isn't all either, all of this amazing stuff comes with an amazing price.

If you're a creative or professional that doesn't want to spend over $1200 for a monitor, than this is the best monitor for you.

#2
HP
Z32k G3
32" - See Price

What you need to know

Just as good as the Dell UltraSharp monitor and also uses the new IPS Black technology that doubles the contrast of your typical IPS monitor. What differentiates this monitor is the connectivity which includes a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port which provides higher speeds and that extra boost in power delivery to your laptop or desktop to ensure its charged, even if you're using a Macbook Pro.

The reason this monitor didn't make the #1 spot was due to the higher price for some additional features like Adaptive Sync and the limited size to 32inch. So if those don't make a difference for you than consider this an equal partner to our #1 choice.

If you use your own monitor stand, there is a bracket included that works with the VESA standard 100 x 100.

#3
Samsung
M8 Smart Monitor
32" - See Price

What you need to know

This great monitor doubles as a TV and is bold enough to correctly implement a VA panel. What does that mean? A VA panel offers greater contrast than IPS panels, triple the deep blacks and still beats even the new IPS Black technology.

So why don't all monitors use VA panels? Well, its simple. When it comes to some important factors for most creatives and professionals like color accuracy and viewing angles, VA panels don't match up to IPS panels, until now. This monitor does a great job competing and is why it made our top 3 list.

There are extra features included beyond the Smart Monitor, like the slim webcam which detaches if you want to use your own and the speakers built-in. It can also charge your laptop or desktop, but it has a power delivery of 65W, so keep that in mind before purchasing.

#4
Sony
INZONE M9
27" - See Price

What you need to know

I think the intent was to create a gaming monitor which is why this is the first monitor on our list to have a higher refresh rate of 144hz vs the usual 60hz. This higher refresh rate helps to make fast moving picture look smoother compared to lower refresh rates which is why it is good for gaming.

Luckily for us creatives and professionals, it also offers great color accuracy and comes with Mini LED backlights. This allows the monitor to have 80,000:1 contrast and provide those deep blacks. The reason why it's not 1,000,000:1 though is because it only has 96 local dimming zones, but we'll take it.

There is a downside to this monitor however. Unfortunately, it does not come with power delivery to leverage the same USB-C cable for charging your device.

#5
Asus
ProArt OLED PA32DC
32" - See Price

What you need to know

You might be surprised that this monitor isn't rated higher on our list, considering it is the first OLED display in our line-up, but when you see the price, you'll understand. Yes, its expensive, but OLED offers the best picture when we think about true blacks, uniform brightness, and color accuracy. They wanted to keep the color so accurate, that a colorimeter is built into the monitor.

With individual pixels lighting up on their own, what more is there to say? Well, there are even more perks to this monitor. Some of them to highlight are the speakers that are built-in and power delivery of 65W to your device via a single USB-C cable.

So if you're looking for one of the best monitors for creatives and professionals, and have the funds, this is definitely the right monitor for you.

#6
Asus
ProArt Mini LED PA32UCR-K
32" - See Price

What you need to know

Very similar to our #6 rated monitor, but for a much lower price. The diffrence here is, this is a Mini LED backlit monitor (with 576 local dimming zones) rather than an OLED display. Can most people tell the difference between OLED and Mini LED, probably not, but we can.

Incredible color accuracy and contrast, this monitor was made for professionals. It has 80W power delivery to your deivce on the same USB-C cable for the display.

Even if you have a Mac, given the price of this monitor and comparable specs to the Apple Pro XDR Display, I don't know why you wouldn't choose monitor first. If you do buy this monitor, make sure you leverage the extra perk of getting Adobe Creative Cloud free for 3 months.

#7
Apple
Pro XDR Display
32" - See Price

What you need to know

This is the display for Mac users who want amazing color accuracy and deep blacks that come from the Mini LED backlight, but comes with a price. This is the most expensive monitor in our line-up and we can partially relate it to the Apple brand and the quality of every single component of this monitor, but it also has the highest resolution at 6k.

The big downfall of the monitor is the additional costs of the stand. Don't get us wrong, the stand is also impressive, but we can't sit by its price. Also, some of our other recommended Mini LED monitors have more local dimming zones provider a better picture and contrast since the Pro XDR display has 576 zones.

If you have a Mac, you get more out of this monitor. The one thing to note is, there are only USB-C ports for connectivity. One does offer 96W of power delivery to your device, but if you're looking for other types of ports, this may not be the right monitor for you.

#8
Apple
Studio Display
27" - See Price

What you need to know

If the Pro XDR Display is too pricey for your Mac, this is the next best thing. Although it doesn't come with Mini LED, it still has a great display and continues to have the Apple modern design that we know and love. With a 5k high resolution, the picture is very sharp, especially considering it is a 27inch monitor.

This monitor also only comes with USB-C ports with a 96W power delivery and display USB-C connection. Listen to music and videos with the 6 speaker combination built-in to this monitor. There are other monitors with very similar, if not better specs to this monitor, for a much lower price in our line-up. However, if you have a Mac, you get better integration with the built-in webcam and features like Center Stage.

A new monitor by Samsung is expected to be released in Q1 of 2023 called Samsung Viewfinity S9 which will have very similar specs and build quality but for a cheaper price. Stay tuned for our review on it when it releases.
